Recode is reporting that the next wave of electric vehicles could have much larger battery packs than the ones currently in the market.
Tesla is now expected to debut a large battery pack in 2020, and the company says it plans to release at least two other variants of the vehicle by 2021.
The first is a new, larger battery with a larger lithium ion battery, while the second variant is a smaller one with a lithium polymer battery.
The batteries would have a capacity of about 12 kWh and a mass of about 4.8 kg, according to Recode.
The company’s goal is to make the new vehicle a competitive player in the marketplace, and that could lead to the introduction of the more powerful battery packs, Recode reported.
The battery packs will not replace the batteries already on the market, but will be the key to the company’s strategy, Recoding said.
